Having vs Being
Becoming something is more important than obtaining things.
I recently read something in the book, 7 habits by Steven Covey about having and being. It’s an important distinction. You are who you are because of what you are not because of what you have. Changing what you have, own, or control does not change who you fundamentally are.
Let’s take being a millionaire for example, or being wealthy. You can give someone millions of dollars, but if they are not a wealthy person at heart, they will end up losing it all and returning to their precious financial state. We are it all the time with lottery winners.
How about health. Someone reaches a certain level of health through much effort or through some temporary situation, when that situation ends, they will revert back to the health level that matches who they are.
So being is more important than having.
