“The work that hurts you less than it hurts others is the work you’re meant to do.”
I came across this quote while listening to Atomic Habits by James Clear
When thinking about work, jobs, career, contributions, or your life’s purpose, the biggest question is often, “What should I do?”
This bit of wisdom, echoed by James Clear, is very informative. The idea isn’t original. I believe Gay Hendricks may have said something similar in his book, The Big Leap.
The idea is that work is work, and providing value will more than likely require sacrifice. It’ll hurt. The trick is finding something that will be easier for you to do and more enjoyable in the balance. Work within your zone of genius – not just what you’re good at. You’re good, but that it lights you up. You like it, or most of it. It may require work and sacrifice, but you can endure, … it hurts you less.
